Eagle Valley Speedway

Southworth First at Eagle Valley Speedway

Jim Falls, Wisconsin (May 20, 2018) The Eagle Valley Speedway and Miller Lite presented the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds and EVS Hornets. Feature winners included Grant Southworth, Terran Spacek, Shane Halopka, Danny Richards, George Richards, and Chad Prissel.
The WISSOTA Modifieds were swept by Grant Southworth as he won the heat and started outside of Steve Hallquist on the front row of the feature. It was second row starter Michael Truscott leading lap one as Southworth set chase and Mike Anderson moved to third. Southworth moved to the high groove and on the second lap, moved into the lead. For the first half of the race Truscott raced high and Mike Anderson low as they battled for the runner up spot.
It was Hallquist on the move though as he worked the high groove and took third from Anderson. A spinning Jason Richardson reset the field and the restart saw Southworth in control as Anderson worked low into second. The high line was the preferred groove however as Hallquist got past Anderson for second but couldn’t run down Southworth as he was flawless on his drive toward his first ever WISSOTA Modified win. Michael Truscott bested Jake Miller for fourth.
Terran Spacek brought his broom to the track as he won the WISSOTA Super Stock heat and feature. It was his second sweep on the weekend and he did it in an impressive manner. Lukas Koski was on the pole with Spacek to his outside as the green flag flew. It was immediately Spacek moving into the lead in the high groove. Fifth starting Tommy Richards moved to second on lap one and set chase for the lead. A late yellow flag slowed the action only once but it did not thwart Spacek. Richards made several hard moves in the waning laps in an attempt to steal the lead, but Spacek was rock solid on his way to the checkered flag. Marcus Simonson, Troy Fransway, and Kevin Hager rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw Calvin Iverson and Tommy Richards win heats as Derek Haas and Shane Halopka graced the front row of the feature. A first lap crash which collected several cars caused a complete restart but once under green, they ran the remaining distance without an incident. It was Halopka immediately to the ultra-high groove as he blasted around the speedway to the checkered flag. He drove through lap traffic like the ace he is as he sits less than a handful of victories away from his 200th feature win. Iverson looked very strong himself as he chased the leader in vain. Haas had a strong run finishing in front of the fine run of Shadow Kitchner and Tommy Richards.
Once again, for back to back weeks, Danny Richards scored a sweep in the WISSOTA Street Stocks winning both the heat and feature. It was Travis Hazelton and Parker Anderson on the front row as Anderson took the early lead as he looked strong after coming off his first career feature win the night before. It was Richards though who moved from the second row into the lead and made the event his own. After a brief caution, Richards again took control and was not seriously challenged on his way to the win. Anderson ran in second over Ron Hanestad and Mike Knudtson as they battled side by side for position. It was Knudtson taking third as Hanestad found his hands full with Bob Seidler for fourth. Hanestad was able to take the position and use the closing laps to catch and pass Knudtson for third. At the line it was Richards, Anderson, Hanestad, Knudtson, and Seidler rounding out the top five.
Making his claim to have the Eagle Valley Speedway renamed to George, or Richards when his dominating brothers are considered, George Richards once again owned the night in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks. It was Tyler Hallquist and Tyler Wahlstrom on the front row of the feature as Richards took the initial lap lead and never looked back on his way to the win. A chain of three consecutive cautions did its part to keep the pack relatively close as Wahlstrom was the runner up over Brandon Hakala who followed his feature win from the night before in third. Dean Pronschinske and Nick Carvelli were scored in the top five.
The EVS Hornet heat was won by Jeremy Johnson as Jake Halterman and Dan Prissel brought the field to green in the feature. The opening lap saw four wide racing action as it was Chad Prissel finding the lead and Johnson moving into second. A Dean Butler caution slowed the action but it was back to door to door racing under green as Jason Brauer joined the top three. A multi car crash in turn three which involved the front runners saw Jeremy Johnson eliminated from the event as all others were able to continue. Brauer grabbed the lead briefly under green, but it was Chad Prissel back out front a lap later. Dan Prissel closed and took over second in the closing laps. It was the Prissel’s, Chad and then Dan over Jason Bauer, Jake Halterman, and Dean Butler.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Sunday, May 27, 2018, with the 2nd Annual Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series and then again, one night later on Monday, Memorial Day, May 28, 2018, as Budweiser sponsors the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and EVS Hornets. There will be no Modifieds on either night. Oium Well Drilling and Oium Black Top will once again give away one bicycle each for both a boy and a girl just as they do every race night at the Eagle Valley Speedway!
